Bin Laden October Surprise, Part Deux

Arianna Huffington is speculating that Osama Bin Laden will provide the fabled October Surprise by being captured or killed before the election. Bin Laden allegedly did that four years ago with his late endorsement of John Kerry. This is going to be hard given that Bin Laden died years ago.

Bin Laden was known to have serious kidney disease even before 9-11 and received kidney dialysis in January 2002. He most certainly could not survive with a fatal kidney disease under primitive conditions in Pakistan's lawless tribal region for six years. His last video tape in 2007 was clearly a forgery. The makeup job would have embarrassed a middle school drama department.

I'm not saying that the Bush Administration won't try to jigger up something. They did it four years ago with a video tape dated October 30, 2004 that appears fake. It worked then to shift the election result. I'm sure Karl Rove is in the studio now filming the latest Bin Laden tape.

Osama Bin Laden is dead but his myth continues, as an inspiration to young Islamists and as a necessary boogeyman for Republicans.
